Getting started

What DocuRack does

DocuRack is a native Mac app for documenting server racks. You draw each rack to scale, place your devices in it, connect their ports with cables and record the power circuits that feed them.

DocuRack is not available yet. It is planned for the Mac App Store in 2026.

Choose File > New Rack, or the New Rack row in the sidebar, and give the rack a name. Open the rack and set its height in units under the Settings tab.

The diagram always opens with the whole rack in view. Use the zoom buttons, or Fit Rack to return to the full view. Switch between the front and the rear with the control above the rack.

Click Add Device in the toolbar. Pick a device from your library, or create a custom one, choose how it is mounted and click Add Device. DocuRack places it in the first free position.

Click a device in the rack to see its picture, ports and details beside the rack. Every change is saved as you make it.

A device can be mounted on the front or the rear rails, with its panel facing out of the rack or into it. Patch panels and power strips are often fitted at the rear or facing in. The diagram shows the side you would really see from where you are looking.

Devices and panels

The Devices section of the sidebar is your library. A device type has a name, a height, a front and a rear picture, and a list of ports. You can import pictures from image files or from VSS and VSSX stencil files, then mark where each port sits on the picture.

Choose File > New Panel from Template. Pick a patch panel, a fibre panel or a power strip, the connector, the number of ports and rows, the height and the colour. DocuRack draws the panel and creates all its ports, ready to connect.

Cables and power

Open the Connections tab of a rack and click Add Cable, or choose Rack > Add Cable. Pick the rack, device and port for each end. The two ends may be in different racks.

In the rack, click a port marker on a device picture to see where its cable goes and to jump to the other end.

Create a power circuit in the sidebar and add feeds with voltage, amperage and phase. Link each feed to the rack it supplies. The Power tab of a rack shows the feeds that reach it.

A port can record where its fixed wiring goes. Open the device, select the port and click Connect, then choose Somewhere else (room, outlet) and enter the room and the outlet. For a carrier line, tick Uplink and enter the provider, the speed and the circuit ID.

Enter the typical and the maximum draw of a device in its details, or once in its device type. The Power tab of a rack adds the figures up and shows typical draw, maximum draw, the current at 230 V, heat output and the load on the UPS, with a list per device.

These are the values you enter. DocuRack does not measure anything.

Add your sites or rooms under Settings and give each rack a location. The picker at the top of the sidebar shows one location at a time or all of them. A cable may connect racks in different locations.

Reports and sharing

Click Export in the toolbar of a rack. Choose what to export (the full rack report, the diagram, or a list of devices, connections or power), the format (PDF, Excel or CSV), portrait or landscape, and whether to include all ports or only connected ones.

The full report contains the rack diagram front and rear, the devices, ports and connections, cables and power. Export is part of DocuRack Pro.

Choose File > Print to send the rack report straight to a printer, with the same options as the PDF export.

Choose File > Share Rack to save a DocuRack file (.rck). It holds the rack with its devices, device types, pictures and cables. Your colleague opens the file in DocuRack on another Mac and gets the rack as a copy. Device types that already exist there are reused.

DocuRack Pro

The free version documents one rack with up to ten devices. Export is part of DocuRack Pro.

DocuRack Pro removes the limits on racks and devices and adds export of rack diagrams as PNG and PDF and of devices and cables as CSV. It is offered as a yearly subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. The price for your country is shown in the app before you buy. Open it with DocuRack > Upgrade to DocuRack Pro.

Open DocuRack > Upgrade to DocuRack Pro and click Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

Nothing is deleted. If you have more than one rack, you choose one to keep working with. The other racks stay in the list, locked, and open again as soon as DocuRack Pro is active.

Your data

Your documentation is a file on your Mac, with automatic backups beside it. DocuRack makes no internet connection and has no account, so nothing leaves your Mac.

Choose DocuRack > Language. DocuRack is available in English, German and Spanish.

Choose Help > Report an Issue in the app, or write to info@toz.red.
